The Queen’s Green Canopy

To mark the Platinum Jubilee, residents were joined by the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Councillor Jill Bray, to plant a magnolia tree.

“I so clearly remember the Coronation and it is wonderful to be planting this magnolia tree in our garden to celebrate Her Majesty’s reign in this Platinum Jubilee year”, says Kathleen (aged 96), a resident here at Acorn Court Care Home in Redhill, Surrey.

The Rustica Rubra Tulip Tree tree, voted for by the residents and by friends on Facebook, was chosen because many residents said they had fond memories of owning a magnolia and of seeing them in full bloom in their younger years.  “The tree has been planted right in the centre of our garden and I know it will give a lot of pleasure to our residents”, adds our home manager, Noelia Fernandes.

Resident Kathleen was ably assisted by the Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, Councillor Jill Bray, who also officially opened our Jubilee Bar, requested by residents and now to be a permanent fixture in our care home. Resident David (100 years young), remarked: “I think it’s absolutely wonderful; I am looking forward to spending many afternoons enjoying my favourite tipple in our new Jubilee Bar.”
